Great Falls Park, Virginia

We spent Thanksgiving weekend with family on the Virginia side of Washington, DC. Friday was a beautiful day and the kids needed some time outside so we took a trip to Great Falls Park with my brother Aaron and his fiance Michelle. The park has three overlooks of the falls and this is a photo from the first one.

Nondetailed White Blobs

Bad Waterfall PhotoI’m a big fan of North Carolina photographer Kevin Adams and his interests seem similar to our own – photography, hiking and North Carolina.

Trina and I are new day hikers and love the “Old North State” about as much as anybody. We recently purchased Kevin’s book North Carolina Waterfalls, A Hiking and Photography Guide to help us get out and see parts of the state we might otherwise miss.

Early in the book Kevin describes how he likes to photograph waterfalls and describes shutter speeds where, if you’re not careful, you’ll turn the waterfalls into “nondetailed white blobs.” Well, I think I mastered that skill pretty well! Read the rest of this entry »
